Count-O-Mat 1.1

(Der folgende Text ist in englisch, weil ich nicht warten wollte, bis ich die neue Soft-O-Mat-Seite fertig habe und von MacUpdate, iusethis, etc. hierauf verlinkt wird)
Announcing the immediate release of Count-O-Mat…
Are you using the iTunes sharing feature regularly? Are you annoyed about the fact that iTunes does not update the play counter or last played date when you listen to your songs remotely?
Well, then have a look at Count-O-Mat…
NEW: Version 1.1 released, fixing a severe bug, adding new features — Count-O-Mat now also works for tracks in shared playlists. Everyone using 1.0 is encouraged to update to 1.1.
What Count-O-Mat does
Count-O-Mat lists all available iTunes shares in your vicinity and marks the one you are currently listening to. While you are enjoying your remote music, it increases the play count when you finished playing a song and also updates the last played date (and time).
Updating the play count or last played date is important for the integrity of your iTunes library, as this statistical data provides the basis for many smart playlists.
Count-O-Mat also announces the availability of new iTunes shares through Growl notifications.
Your iPod syncs play count and last played date, why not sync your remote iTunes clients, too?
Usage Scenarios
Count-O-Mat is intended for users who are accessing their own iTunes share remotely. If you don’t have a user account on the remote machine, Count-O-Mat will not work. Additionally, in situations where you are sharing music with your roommates or friends, Count-O-Mat might not be that useful…

How to get started
Using Count-O-Mat is bloody simple. When you are listening to an iTunes share, Count-O-Mat will prompt you for your login and password of the remote machine. If you check the keychain box, it will never ask you again. Your login information will be used to control and update data on the remote iTunes.
Take a look at the preferences panel, Count-O-Mat has options to float on top of all other applications, to show Growl notifications when new shares become available and to minimize automatically after a couple of seconds.
Syncing the last played date is optional and may be turned on in the preferences panel, too.
If you don’t want to sync when listening to a particular share, song or for whatever reason, just uncheck the Sync box in the lower left corner, Count-O-Mat will not update the remote iTunes as long as this box is unchecked.

Hallöchen!
Nettes Tool!
18/05/2007 (23:57)I can’t get this to work. Count-O-Mat never asks me for my password for the remote machine.
My iTunes Library is password protected, could this be the problem?
30/05/2007 (23:08)Hey Kieran,
my guess is that you didn’t enable Remote Apple Events on the remote machine. Please check
System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Apple Events
and tick them on if remote access is not allowed. Please drop me a line if your problem persists. Otherwise, enjoy Count-O-Mat!
30/05/2007 (23:40)I have remote access on, still crashes right after I enter the name for the keychain. I’m not sure what else to do. I REALLY would love for this to work!
8/06/2007 (04:31)A temporary fix is to disable keychain usage. You should start by deleting the keychain entry using Keychain Access.app (it is named after the IP address of your remote machine), otherwise Count-O-Mat will crash again and again.
There’s a bug in the way keychain entries for remote apple event accounts are stored and I have already found a way around it… but I need some time to implement it.
I’ll drop you a line when the fixed version is done, thank you very much for your patience!
